With the middle click option enabled Fusion 360 all of a sudden becomes much more usable, whats more it is absolutely free. MagicPrefs is an app that extends the magic mouse's functionality by allow you to assign gestures and taps to trigger custom functions, including, yes you guessed it - a middle click. Unlike Fusion 360's predecessor, 123Design, there is no orbit on the right click as this action has been replaced by a shortcut menu, there is also no keyboard shortcuts available to enable pan and orbit functions.Īll is not lost however as there is a great little system tray app that solves this problem (and probably a few other problems that I have yet to discover). MagicPrefs is system preference tool that allows you to unlock your Magic Mouses full potential This tool allows full mulittouch capabilities with your MM. Not having a middle button makes navigating with Fusion 360 and absolute PITA, panning and orbiting require several clicks to enable, use and then disable the pan and orbit functions which does not make for a particularly smooth workflow, in fact it is downright annoying. Apple is not likely to replace the deprecated Apis nor provide access to the underlying multitouch technology so thats the end of the line for. Search for magicprefs and limit your search to the Library. MagicPrefs is more than 5 years old now and is no longer mantained, the functionality it provided was made possible by Apis that are now deprecated and reverse engineered private Apple frameworks. MacUpdate stores previous versions of MagicPrefs for you since v. Hold option and select Go > Library from the menu bar. If you experience any compatibility issues with MagicPrefs for Mac, consider downloading one of the older versions of MagicPrefs. It also has another annoying limitation when used with products like Autodesk's Fusion 360 - it has no middle button. Navigate to the Applications folder and drag MagicPrefs to the Trash. Whilst it's a great piece of design, the touch sensitive top is not for everyone (my wife hates it). So actually, if the need pushes enough, a user could write a plugin for SketchUp that uses Apple’s magic mouse / trackpad APIs and makes the camera move, just like the SpaceNavigator. If, like me you are a die-hard Apple fan you have no doubt embraced all of Apples products including the sometimes not so magic, Magic Mouse. When I see how well the space navigator works (without 3D Connexion drivers installed) in web browsers with standard web APIs, I believe 3D Connexion’s SketchUp plugin would be totally redundant if SketchUp listened to generic 6DoF events. This would have to be available on all supported operating systems.Īs for 3D Connexion, the proper solution would be to have a driver that outputs generic input events instead of writing a myriad of plugins to add support into every possibly software. Select Mouse from System Preferences to see your Mac gestures. I suggest trying Rhino and experiencing how fluid and intuitive navigation is for an example of how CAD can work with the Trackpad. Like the original poster (any many others) said, Rhino figured this out and it works great. You can do this on any Gnome based distro using dconf (part of GNOME, replacement for GConf) on. For me, MagicPrefs is not an acceptable solution either, we need native support for Apple’s trackpad. Where would we be if SketchUp refused to support the mouse wheel? If operating systems provided input interfaces (as simple and standardized as on the web) that are generic enough to cover all such devices, it would make sense to think about it. Please tell me if is working for you and if there is anything that I can improve. The only thing that is changed as opposed to monitored is the tracking speed, but i am 99 certain changing the OSX tracking speed does not change the optics in. MagicPrefs separates the surface of your Magic Mouse or trackpad into zones that can trigger different actions. However MagicPrefs can change the way you operate the device, granted with more gestures you might be touching the mouse more but that could not equate to more impact than say 0.01. We are not anymore in the era of only left/right/double click. MagicPrefs MagicPrefs is a Preference Pane application that lets you activate gestures on your mouse or trackpad that previously didn't do anything, as well as customize the ones that did. On the other side, gesture capabilities in hardware are nowadays as common as orientation/motion sensors in mobile devices. However it is wise to keep a software generic. I think the differentiating point in this request is that it is for a very specific device (and if Apple suddenly shows off something more fancy, this would repeat again).
